Account of Major General Newman's World War II combat experience, chiefly ca. 25 May 1944 on Biak, a small island north of New Guinea; Newman describes the maneuvers of the U.S. Army, 41st Division, to secure the island and capture an airport from the Japanese. Essay also briefly discusses the Buna-Sanananda operation of 1942- 1943, and includes maps of Australia and New Guinea.
